1) Who am I?
-I am Joaquin Noguerol, an undergraduate student at the University of Florida majoring in Political Science. I am bilingual with Uruguayan heritage, I am a good public speaker and I work well with others in work and education environments. I aspire to make our lives more efficient in order to free more time that can be dedicated to issues that are actually difficult to solve as a collective society. I see my business idea of an Umbrella rental service potentially going nationwide. Campus is great place to start in terms of getting people to realize the reliability and convenience of renting an umbrella you can drop off at your destination.
2) What do I have to offer to customers?
- My umbrella rental service will feature a variety of pick-up/drop-off locations strategically place over a given area with large amounts of pedestrian traffic. For example, on campus some potential locations for a pick-up/drop-off bucket would be at the exits to a lecture hall, entrances/exits to the Reitz Union and all libaries, major bus stops, etc. I can see this concept expanding on an international scale, moving to points of attraction like outdoor malls/outlets, airports, bus stops. and business districts.
3) Who am I offering this too?
- Just about everyone that could benefit from my umbrella rental service moves from one building to another by walking on a daily basis.
4) Why?
- For a small fee every month or by every use, people dressed in business attire with valuable technology on their persons are often inconvenienced by rain. People in Florida dread the spontaneity of Florida rain, yet we still do not have a set solution for those moving around campus on foot. Many people bring their own umbrella or use a rainjacket, but these types of items are hard to store away or dry quickly before entering a new building. My umbrella rental service would give people access to a simple solution that they can dispose of quickly before entering a building.
5) Core Competencies
- I would say almost all of my true competencies and strengths are mostly found in areas related to social interaction, writing, and other humanities. I am great at making people feel comfortable and I am good at displaying my passion for something.
Overall I believe, for the most part, that I possess the qualities to be a genuine entrepreneur of my business. I am confident in reaching out to people and I like making people's lives easier. I think informing people of/connecting this back to my major might be hard, considering I am a political science major. That being said, I think I could really get people in student government and university administration figured out.

hey Joaquin!
ReplyDeleteI like your initiative to solve the problem of the rains in Florida, which are very common, and I like even more the solution, it seems very unique and I think it is very likely to be successful, especially the idea that after use (when the umbrella is already wet) you can have the comfort of leaving it and not worry about it anymore. I feel that you thought about every detail, and you managed to define your idea and concept very well. Great job!
