6A Identifying Economic and Regulatory Opportunities.

4 Opportunities in economics and regulation Economic Opportunity 1- (b)Small Car and light truck sales have increased for the fourth time in four years. This information coming from the New York Times (a), I think we are moving away from being a society of large, inefficient vehicles and companies can take advantage of markets with (c) customers in large cities who are educated and understand the importance of space efficiency. (d) I think this opportunity will be hard to exploit because there is a pre-existing difficult competition of companies that specialize in smaller vehicles; that being said, I believe one or two companies will develop a few models of smaller vehicles that will eventually dominate the market. 5A Local opportunities for unmet needs

I have found and isolated 5 independent opportunities for fixing unmet needs in local communities. Opportunity 1- Palatka, FL "Lee Conlee funding in peril during shutdown" https://infoweb-newsbank-com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&t=pubname%3AFPDN%21Palatka%2BDaily%2BNews%2B%2528FL%2529/year%3A2019%212019/mody%3A0116%21January%2B16&f=advanced&action=browse&format=text&docref=news/170FF41646CA6F10 The Lee Conlee House is a center for domestic violence relief and refuge for anyone in Putnam County where domestic violence is prominent. The house depends on federal funding and has faced funding shortages since the government shutdown.  The house needs any donations possible to face to stay open until the government is up and running once again. The problem puts pressure on the Lee Conlee House Board, Putnam County social services, and the people of putnam county facing domestic violence on a consistent basis in their personal liv...

4A- Opportunity Belief

I believe there is an unmet need in the lack of a recycling system at my apartment complex. Student residents at my complex all dispose of products that are recyclable, and I often find large amounts of cardboard in the trash compactor. My apartment complex is fairly new but I believe there has never been a recycling system here, and the problem doesn't seem to be going away soon, although I've only lived here since August. The current alternative is residents saving their recycle in their units and transporting it to a third party service. I am almost positive there is a business opportunity here for a recycling company or the City of Gainesville to get involved. The prototypical customer would be a student resident living here at my complex, so I decided to interview my friend Leo who lives across the hall from me. Interview #1- Me: Hey Leo, how do you feel about the idea of introducing a recycling system here at our complex? Leo: I think it would be good, right now w...

3- My Entrepreneurship Story

I have a little entrepeneurship story that might have some ethical implications but was nonetheless innovated and ultimately harmless (for the most part). At my high school growing up, lunchtime was a time of freedom and enjoyment for all students. Everyone was usually so hungry at lunch that a whole underground food market developed every year where kids would trade each other's lunch items to get more desirable snacks and foods. One of the most valuable lunch products on this black market was the 0.50 cent jumbo size Otis Spunkmeyer chocolate chip cookies. Everyone loved these cookies, and often times the lunch ladies at the front would run out before the end of both lunches. After learning this, I decided to buy cookies in bulk for myself and keep them in my backpack for myself later in the day. As time went on, other students would see me with a cookie later in the day begging for a bite and even offering money. Eventually I told a couple kids in my classes later in the day t...

2- My Bug List

My Bug List My apartment complex has no recycling system so my roommates and I have to save our recycle in the unit and take it to a third party disposer.  Why does this bug exist? The City of Gainesville charges my complex separately for recycling. 2. The Chic-Fil-A's and Starbucks' on campus do not accept gift cards, leaving me with useless cards after holidays and birthdays. Why does this bug exist? All restaurants and chain-places to eat on campus are leased to third party businesses and owners.  3. I cannot walk in the grass around my complex because there is too much dog poop. Why does this bug exist? The dog park designated for my complex has very little room for dogs to use the bathroom because of the retention pond in the middle of the dog park. 4. It takes a couple minutes longer for me to get out of the parking garage on a scooter as opposed to a car. Why ? Because the exit gate for the parking garage is triggered by a weight senso...
