9A- Testing the Hypothesis, part 2

From the interviews I conducted, I realized there were multiple changes I wanted to make after learning a lot about what lies outside the boundaries of my need.

Who: I think the who of the need is largely dependent on where it is raining and what types of daily routines walk outside for short periods of time throughout the day. My second interviewee said the need is also held by anyone that has to walk or cannot/does not carry an umbrella or rain jacket. IT can also be hard for individuals in wheelchairs to have an umbrella accessible at all times.

What: From my first interview and third interview with individuals who work full time off campus, learned that my vision is not just applicable on campus. My first interviewee suggested the idea could work at the outlet at which she works where there are multiple buildings in close proximity where crowds have to walk outside for short periods of rain. Some sort of service to keep dry would surely keep shops busier in the rain.

Why: My fourth interviewee explained how she believed people outside my boundary have different needs because sometimes people have to walk around outside all day long for their jobs, such as door-to-door solicitors. This is different from students and employees on a school campus because the majority of individuals on campus are usually inside buildings for large portions of the day, spending time outside only when moving between classes and leaving/going home.

Table

Inside the Boundary                                          Outside the Boundary
People move between the same locations/stations                     People who spend all day inside for
every day on a consistent basis over extended                           their jobs/People who work from hom
periods of time.

The need is rain protection for short periods of time                 Not rain protection for those in
                                                                                                   vehicles

People dont carry anti rain protection when they                       In other situations, people often better
know they will be outside for minimal amounts                         prepare for rain when they know they
of time.                                                                                        will be outside for extended periods of                                                                                                       time.
